Desserts for E's Birthday

It was Miss E's 2nd birthday party yesterday and what is a birthday party without cupcakes?? I prefer to use the butter cup cake recipes and butter icing.
I have previously made chocolate mud cupcakes with chocolate gnash as the topping for a birthday party (forgot to take photo's) - it was sooooo delicious but i didn't have time to wait until the cupcakes totally cooled down and I ended up with mud cup cakes in a pool of chocolate gnash. It was still delicious though!!!So, back to the butter cup cakes for E's birthday party. This time I allowed plenty of time for cupcake cool down.

E's mum told me the colour scheme was "colour" so what could be more appropriate than 100's and 1000's.

To go with the cupcakes I made a chocolate slice. I had never made this slice before but i was betting on it tasting absolutely fantastic considering the only ingredients were - chocolate, butter, eggs and sugar .... mmmmmmm. The pictures speak for themselves ...

So, add the cup cakes and chocolate slice together and we have ...

Nappy cake continued ...

It has been a few days since my last blog. I have been looking around for small and inexpensive toys to put at the top of the nappy cakes. Today I found some cute soft animal toys; a lion, a pig, a cow and a dog. I know that teddy bears are usually the normal soft toy to give a baby - but I like to be different. So please meet the stars of the cakes ...

So, we have toys and muslin wraps. Other items I use to fill the cake are scented nappy bags, wipes, baby shampoo, baby powder, bath oil etc. I also use nappies for newborns, a plate to put the cake on and ribbon to keep the cake together.

Nappy cake preparation

I love making nappy cakes for women who are expecting. Usually when I tell people that I am making a nappy cake for a pregnant woman they think that i am making an edible cake that looks like a nappy. Usually I get a look from them that says "yeah, great idea - but did you maybe want to get her something she can use??"

Little do they realise that the mother to be will be able to use every bit of the nappy cake and my present will look sooooo much better than theirs :)

The general idea of is that disposable nappies are used to create a 2 or 3 tier cake. Inside a ring of nappies I cram lots of baby goodies and more nappies. Then I top the cake off with a soft toy for the baby.

Today I have started to prepare bits and pieces to go inside the nappy cake. Ages ago I bought about 2.5 meters of some cute girl and boy print muslin material, that I have now cut up and sewn into baby muslin wraps. Not only are muslin wraps very useful, they are cheap to make!

So, I have muslin wraps ... what else??

Getting Started ...

Hi, my name is Stephanie.

Ive decided to start a blog to motivate myself and record some of the things I make- be that food or presents or art. I wouldn't necessarily put myself in the category as very artistic or creative - I just have fun making things - especially food ... desserts mostly.
